On October 18, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, the Atlanta Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 3136 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. During the investigation, officers spotted a white BMW parked at the Abby Ridge Apartments.

As officers approached the vehicle, they detected the smell of raw marijuana. They attempted to make contact with the driver, identified as 27-year-old Demario Moreland. When asked to exit the vehicle, Moreland refused and claimed he didn’t possess any marijuana before speeding away.

In response to the fleeing vehicle, the Atlanta Police Department's Air Support Unit was called in. Moreland's driving was reported as reckless, almost colliding with multiple patrol units and swerving into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was tracked and eventually stopped at 289 Spellman Street, where Moreland fled on foot while his passenger surrendered to the police.

Officers later found Moreland behind a nearby residence. He was charged with multiple offenses, including fleeing and eluding, failure to maintain lane, failure to obey traffic control devices, hit-and-run, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of MDMA. Authorities recovered $12,000 in cash from Moreland, which was submitted as evidence. He was taken to Fulton County Jail, and his vehicle was impounded. The passenger in the vehicle was not charged.

The case is still ongoing, and all individuals involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
